Transitive® Corporation Garners Support from Independent Software Vendors

Close Collaboration with Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) Delivers Immediate Availability of Applications for the Manufacturing Industry on Silicon Graphics Prism Platform

Los Gatos, CA – October 24, 2005 – Transitive Corporation, the leading provider of software that enables transportability of applications across multiple processor and operating system pairs, today announced support for its QuickTransit®™ Hardware Virtualization Technology from Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) that develop applications for the Silicon Graphics Prism™ visualization system. Opticore and UGS® Corp. are among the numerous ISVs that are collaborating with Transitive and SGI (NYSE: SGI) to provide solutions for the Silicon Graphics Prism platform. QuickTransit® allows software applications compiled for one processor and operating system to run on another processor and operating system without any source code or binary changes.

Opticore and UGS Corp. represent the rapidly developing software application ecosystem for the manufacturing market that SGI is building around its Silicon Graphics Prism platform. Transitive and SGI are working closely with ISVs to attain full support of their applications to fulfill the growing needs of manufacturing customers. QuickTransit® allows ISVs to quickly provide a fully functional, high-performance solution on the Silicon Graphics Prism system, while circumventing the often lengthy and expensive process of completing a full native port. ISVs have found QuickTransit® to be an invaluable tool to accelerate their support of Silicon Graphics Prism.

“Working closely with the ISVs is very important to the successful implementation of QuickTransit® on any hardware platform,” said Bob Wiederhold, President and CEO of Transitive. “Through our relationships with ISVs, end users will benefit from the immediate availability of a large number of applications for a new hardware platform. Over the next several months we expect to make additional announcements about the growing ISV support for QuickTransit®.”

“Currently SGI is focusing on building ISV support for the Silicon Graphics Prism system that will target our manufacturing customers,” said Anneke Dempsey, Senior Director, Global Alliances at SGI. “QuickTransit® provides an excellent method for quickly building a software stack for our new platform, and it meets the high level of performance that our customers have come to expect from SGI. In the near future, customers can expect to see similar software stacks for the different vertical markets we address.”

ISVs Benefit from QuickTransit®

By running applications via QuickTransit®, ISVs can dramatically reduce the cost of supporting multiple hardware platforms, while improving customer satisfaction by providing application releases on new platforms before a native port is available. Graphics and interactive performance are transparent to the end-user and applications run at approximately 80% of the speed that would be achieved if a native recompilation were completed on the new platform. Functionally, the applications run identical to the original version. And since there are no source or binary code changes, an ISV need only do final testing to assure proper operation on the new platform.

QuickTransit® Provides Immediate Application Availability for SGI’s Manufacturing Customers

Previously, engineering departments were required to maintain multiple hardware platforms in order to run the wide variety of software applications they needed. With QuickTransit®, many of these applications can now be consolidated to run on the SiliconGraphics Prism, which improves engineering workflow.

“QuickTransit® is a key in our organization’s ability to quickly provide immediate support for the Opus Software Family for Design Solutions, to customers running the Silicon Graphics Prism system,” said Peter Larsson, Product Manager at Opticore. “With this solution, customers can immediately start using Opticore's Design Visualization software to take their designs to new levels.”

“UGS’s Teamcenter Visualization provides the world's most powerful, real-time digital mockup solutions for high-powered, interactive visualization users of the Silicon Graphics Prism through the use of QuickTransit®,” said Stu Johnson, Product Marketing Manager of UGS Corp. With this technology we can provide the best possible solution to our high-end customers utilizing the power of scalable graphics from SGI.”
