Virtualization Authority Dr. Mendel Rosenblum Joins Transitive™ Technical Advisory Board

Leading Scientist and Entrepreneur Will Provide Guidance for Future Development of QuickTransit® Hardware Virtualization Products

Los Gatos, Calif. – July 25, 2006 – Transitive™ Corporation, the leading provider of software that enables transportability of applications across multiple processor and operating system pairs, today announced that eminent computer scientist Dr. Mendel Rosenblum has joined the company’s Technical Advisory Board (TAB). Transitive’s TAB consists of senior industry leaders and external technical experts who collaborate with and advise Transitive’s management team on strategic technology development. Transitive’s QuickTransit® software allows application software that has been compiled for one processor/operating system to be run on a system with a different processor/ operating system without any source code or binary changes.

“Dr. Rosenblum’s experience covers both innovative research and development programs and the successful commercialization of virtualization technology,” said Alasdair Rawsthorne, founder and CTO of Transitive Corporation. “We believe that Dr. Rosenblum brings to the Technical Advisory Board a unique insight into the potential synergies for implementations of QuickTransit and other, complementary virtualization technologies.”

“Transitive has successfully solved an age-old problem that software engineers have been trying to solve for years,” said Mendel Rosenblum, associate professor at Stanford University. “This technology, which for the first time provides true instruction set architecture (ISA) independence, has tremendous potential to impact the entire computing industry, and its synergies with other emerging virtualization technologies are very exciting indeed. I look forward to being a part of the technical advisory team to expand and shape even more possibilities for the future of computing.”

Dr. Rosenblum is an associate professor of Computer Science and, by courtesy, Electrical Engineering at Stanford University and a co-founder and the Chief Scientist of VMware, the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for server and desktop virtualization. He brings to the Transitive TAB a great depth of technical knowledge in operating systems and virtualization, as well as a track record in advanced research and development management and entrepreneurial success, to help the company maximize the market potential of its QuickTransit hardware virtualization products.

About Dr. Mendel Rosenblum
In addition to his technology leadership role with VMware, Dr. Rosenblum is an Associate Professor of Computer Science, and, by courtesy, Electrical Engineering, at Stanford University, where his research focus is on system software and simulation systems for high performance computing architectures. He is involved in active operating systems research projects including The Collective - A Virtual Appliance Computing Infrastructure, and Merrimac - Stanford Streaming Supercomputer Project. Past programs included the FLASH (FLexible Architecture for SHared memory) multiprocessor project. He is part of the team that developed the Hive operating system, the SimOS machine simulator and the Disco virtual machine monitor. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley, and a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Virginia. He has been honored with the ACM/SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award and as an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow.
